TB Awareness and Screening Programme at Jayawiru Sevana Children’s Home, Avissawella

The National Programme for Tuberculosis Control and Chest Diseases (NPTCCD) conducted a TB awareness and screening programme on 27th March 2025 at the Jayawiru Sevana Children’s Home in Puwakpitiya, Avissawella, a facility dedicated to the care of children with disabilities.

This special programme was initiated following the detection of a TB patient, to ensure early screening and appropriate follow-up for other potentially exposed individuals.

The “Pulmo Express” mobile chest X-ray unit was deployed during the visit, enabling on-site screening for both children and staff. Additionally, awareness sessions were conducted to educate caregivers on TB symptoms, prevention methods, and the importance of timely treatment.

This initiative underscores NPTCCD’s ongoing commitment to protecting high-risk and vulnerable groups, and ensuring TB services are accessible where they are most needed.
