World TB Day 2025 Activities – District Chest Clinic Polonnaruwa

The District Chest Clinic (DCC) Polonnaruwa successfully conducted multiple TB awareness and screening programs in various high-risk and community settings to commemorate World TB Day 2025. These initiatives, organized by DTCO Dr. Nihal Jayaweera and the dedicated DCC staff, aimed to enhance early detection, prevention, and public awareness about tuberculosis.

1. Prison Mass Screening & Awareness Program

A TB mass screening and awareness program was conducted at the New Town Prison, Polonnaruwa, reinforcing efforts to detect and prevent tuberculosis among inmates and prison staff. Given the high-risk nature of prison environments, this initiative played a vital role in early TB detection and treatment.

2. TB Awareness Programme at Girithale Army Military Police Camp

The DCC Polonnaruwa team conducted an awareness session for military personnel at the Girithale Army Military Police Camp. The programme educated officers and soldiers on TB symptoms, transmission, and prevention, emphasizing the importance of early detection in communal living conditions.

3. TB Screening & Awareness at CKD Clinic, Pulasthigama

Considering the increased vulnerability of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients to TB, a TB screening program was conducted at the CKD Clinic in Pulasthigama. Patients were educated about the risk of TB, its symptoms, and the importance of timely medical intervention.

4. Workplace TB Awareness at Brandix Garment, Polonnaruwa

Recognizing the importance of TB awareness in workplace settings, an awareness and screening program was carried out at Brandix Garment, Polonnaruwa. Employees were provided with information on TB prevention, early symptoms, and the necessity of regular health check-ups.

5. TB Awareness Session at Jumma Palliya, Kaduruwella

A special awareness session was conducted at Jumma Palliya, Kaduruwella, targeting religious leaders and community members. The session focused on educating the public on TB prevention, symptoms, and treatment, emphasizing the role of community engagement in ending TB.
